Terrific movie monologue from "Three Billboards Outside Ebbings, Missouri'
by Captain Schmideo2 injust watched this movie last night.. the premise of the title and film centers around the mother of young girl, who was raped, murdered, and set on fire by an unknown killer.
convinced that the local police could be doing more, she erects billboards outside of town, calling into question the efforts of the town's beloved chief of police.
this does not sit well with the other townspeople, and soon, the town priest comes to visit and admonish her.and after hearing him tell her if she came to church more regularly, she would be able to find the peace and resolution she needs over her daughter's death, she delivers this speech to him:.

Just watched this movie last night.
The premise of the title and film centers around the mother of young girl, who was raped, murdered, and set on fire by an unknown killer. Convinced that the local police could be doing more, she erects billboards outside of town, calling into question the efforts of the town's beloved Chief of Police. This does not sit well with the other townspeople, and soon, the town Priest comes to visit and admonish her.
And after hearing him tell her if she came to church more regularly, she would be able to find the peace and resolution she needs over her daughter's death, she delivers this speech to him:
"Y'know what I was thinking about today? I was thinking 'bout those street gangs they had down in Los Angeles, those Crips and those Bloods? I was thinking about that buncha new laws they came up with, in the 1980's I think it was, to combat those street-gangs, those Crips and those Bloods. And, if I remember rightly, the gist of what those new laws were saying was if you join one of these gangs, and you're running with 'em, and down the block one night, unbeknownst to you, one of your fellow Crips, or your fellow Bloods, shoot up a place, or stab a guy, well then, even though you didn't know nothing about it, and even though you may've just been standing on a streetcorner minding your own business, what these new laws said was you're still culpable. You're still culpable, by the very act of joining those Crips, or those Bloods, in the first place.Which got me thinking, Father, that whole type of situation is kinda like your Church boys, ain't it? You've got your colors, you've got your clubhouse, you're, for want of a better word, a gang. And if you're upstairs smoking a pipe and reading a bible while one of your fellow gang members is downstairs f-----g an altar boy then, Father, just like those Crips, and just like those Bloods, you're culpable. Cos you joined the gang, man. And I don't care if you never did s--t or you never saw s--t or you never heard s--t. You joined the gang. You're culpable. And when a person is culpable to altar-boy-f-----g, or any kinda boy-f-----g, I know you guys didn't really narrow that down, then they kinda forfeit the right to come into my house and say anything about me, or my life, or my daughter, or my billboards. So, why don't you just finish your tea there, Father, and get the f--- outta my kitchen."
I applauded that speech, and I hope I can remember it when the time comes to put a nosy elder in his place. -

I am of two minds on this:
1) You may have heard of the term, "Rice Christians". As defined in Wikipedia:

"Also, having run into people who have thought nothing of traveling from town to town, no real job or source of income, hitting up churches and organizations for money to help them in their "time of need", I can see why any organization would be cautious.
However, in the case of the JW org, they don't even help THEIR OWN in times of financial need. Chronically sick sister in the hall, can't work, barely existing? "Get the family to help, or get her to ask the Government for assistance." -

I HATE JW funerals

it was about half an hour from start to finish.

ThinkerBelle, I think I was at that funeral!
At least, in the case of the one I attended, the man's name was Hiatt, and it was mispronounced Wyatt through the entire damn thing. I saw a non Witness couple get up halfway through and leave in disgust. Great Witness, guys! -

The past few I have read, the lazy speaker just reads the obituary that was printed in the newspaper, usually written by a family member.
And afterwards, there is some get together at someone's house, or at a venue, where a buffet dinner of sorts is served, and everyone gets some free eats, and might remember to talk to the surviving family members. Sometimes, there will be a video show, but usually, not (don't want to rock any boars, you know).
The saddest funeral I saw was of a very old sister. There was a slide show, but for some reason, there wasn't many of her as a young woman, most of them looked as if they had been taken in very recent years. But mixed in were pictures of her house, interior and exterior. I guess then intent was to show the place she lived in, but with a little narration, it could have also been "And, now, fresh on the market, is this lovely ranch-style dwelling, with large living room, dining room, and three bedrooms. The property also has this very large front yard. For more information, please call Joe Smith Realtors today! Don't let this opportunity slip by!" -

" It is the True Religion ! "
by Phizzy inspeaking to two jw's, separately and days apart, they both weaved in to the conversation the phrase " it is the true religion " .. now in neither case was it possible for me to do my usual thing, piling in with both guns blazing and pointing out that it is impossible for there to be any such thing as "the true religion", unless by "truth" you mean that which is true in your opinion and not supported by facts or reality etc etc.
my question is : is this mere coincidence, or has there been an article or something telling them to say this ?
if there is, could someone point me to it ?

So, I went to the memorial service of a man I have known since childhood...
by Captain Schmideo2 ini have been on a fade for years, so this is the first time i have been in a kh for months.the deceased was barely 52 when he died.
from cancer.
one year younger than me.the memorial was the standard "read the obituary column word for word, then do the jw commercial for 25 minutes" plus a new twist (to me), they played a video called "around the corner" https://youtu.be/tfccoyp0vsu.
